Jug

Jug, buff coloured earthenware, standing on a spreading foot, globular body tapering inwards at the shoulder, cylindrical neck flaring out to an everted lip-rim, a raised edge around the body at the shoulder, small pinched spout, plain grooved loop handle; the exterior covered first with a yellowy-cream slip, then the whole jug covered with a rich brown lead-manganese glaze which to the front of the body has been incised to reveal the slip beneath, these incised areas take the form of to the lower body a crudely stylized bird between several stylized leaves and to the neck further stylized leaves, the base left unglazed.
