Medieval bone counter
(Type 3) Tableman or counter/gaming piece cut from antler or cattle mandibles. Lathe-turned flat discs used in tabula or tables (board games). Decoration appears on one side and are usually five concentric incised lines or grooves (3 inner and one outer circle). All have a repeating circle of ring and dot ornament. (Type 3) are large discoid counters, decorated with thin concentric grooves, the outer being very faint, and the inner comprising one thin and at least one wide groove.
