M.V. LOCHMONAR, glass negative
Port Broadside view of M.V. LOCHMONAR, at Cardiff Docks, c.1946/1947.
ss LOCH MORAR (7052gt) : Built 1943 by Short Brothers Ltd, Sunderland, as EMPIRE CAMP for MOWT and managed by Blue Star Line, London. 1946 - Sold to Cunard White Star Line and renamed VALACIA. 1951 - Sold to Bristol City Line and renamed NEW YORK CITY (managed by C.Hill & Sons, Bristol). 1955 - Sold to Glasgow United Shipping Co Ltd and renamed LOCH MORAR. Operated under the management of Mackay & MacIntyre Ltd, Glasgow. 1959 - Sold to Lufti Yelenkci Evlatari Donmata Istiraki, Istanbul, Turkey and renamed YELKENCI. Arrived on 20 February 1971 at Istanbul for scrapping. ''In the register, the picture is titled “LOCHMONAR , c.1947”, which I have assumed to be incorrect on both counts. The internet came up with LOCH MORAR which was ex- EMPIRE CAMP. This was a refrigeration ship built 1943, which all seems to fit (it’s pictured outside the Cold Store at the top of QAD), except for the date, because the name wasn’t changed to LOCH MORAR until 1955. There’s no name on the ship as pictured as it’s undergoing a repaint. The only LOCHMONAR found was a trawler.'' (P H Bennett)
