Lewis Group 53 no. 751
15th century.
Lewis Group 53 no. 751
15th century.
Triangular half tile, cut diagonally from a whole square tile. Impressed design of line impressed quaterfoil with double circle with pointed trefoil in each corner(full tile description). ?Green glaze on upper surface and just over the edges. There are also small patches of bright yellow glaze on the impressed design. It is possible that this is the result of light/white slip patches beneath the glaze. Tile is slightly misshapen (bowing) and a small piece of fired clay/tile is on bottom surface, preventing it from lying straight. Some mortar adhering to the bottom surface and sides.
