Iron Age / Roman whetstone
Rectangular shaped with smoothed and rounded sides. Apparently made from a sedimentary mudstone which is very fine grained and contains mica. On the upper surface there are numerous shallow incised striations, whilst on two edge surfaces slight notching is apparent. These provide evidence of use as a whetstone.
