Jug, earthenware, standing on a rounded spreading waisted foot, globular body, cylindrical neck, plain beak spout, plain loop handle; transfer-printed in black with to the front of the body the inscription "THE PURITY OF THE CONSTITUTION RESTORED" printed in a curve over a scene showing a recumbent lion between two pillars on one of which is printed "LORDS / MAJY 84" and on the other "COMMONS / MAJY 116", a pair of scales and a crown with a radiant halo float over the scene, "1832" is printed below the scene, to one side of the body is printed the inscription "ROYAL ASSENT / TO THE / REFORM / BILL / 7 JUNE 1832" enclosed within a wreath of ribbon-tied flowers and foliage which includes roses and thistles, to the other side of the exterior body are four head and shoulders portraits of male figures in profile, enclosed by circular frames and with the inscription "THE ZEALOUS & SUCCESSFUL / PROMOTERS OF REFORM / EARL GREY / LORD ALTHORP / LORD JOHN RUSSELL / LORD BROUGHAM" printed around them, to the exterior and interior neck are alternating designs of a pair of clasped hands within a cartouche of foliage and a spray of flowers and foliage including roses and thistles, a runnning border of small flowers and foliage to the handle.
