Cup and saucer

Glamorgan Pottery

Cup, earthenware, standing on a rounded waisted foot-rim, the sides spreading diagonally outwards from the base then going vertically upwards before flaring out to the lip-rim, wishbone handle with raised thumb spur; transfer-printed in red and crudely overpainted in blue yellow and green with chinoiserie-style garden scenes to the exterior of the cup showing several figures in front of an oriental fence with an oriental building to one side and trees to both sides, a scaled-down version of the same scene to the interior bottom of the cup, pink lustre band to the interior lip-rim, pink lustre markings to the handle. Saucer, earthenware, dish-shaped with rounded foot-rim and spreading sides; transfer-printed in red and crudely overpainted in blue yellow and green with a chinoiserie-style garden scene as on the cup, pink lustre band to the rim.
