Finds from Llanmaes excavations
Metalwork assemblage was initally reported via the Portable Antiquities scheme. Investigation of the site was initially undertaken in order to clarify whether the assemblage was treasure. A preliminasry trench 4 by 12 metres in size revealed further cauldron and axe finds, an unexpected Romano-British assemblage and a significant prehistorc assemblage, together with surviving archaeological features and deposits. the assemblage was deemed not to be treasure, its character and dispersal more typical of a settlement and midden context.
