Plate, soup
Soup plate, earthenware, circular shape with rounded foot-rim, deep cushion-moulded sides and spreading rim, a slightly raised edge to the well, eight notches and lobes to the rim; transfer-printed in blue with the 'Damask border' pattern, to the centre of the well a scene showing two figures standing in an Italianate landscape with trees, an aquaduct, a distant village and mountains, to the rim and extending down the sides of the well a wide border with a watered blue ground between a band of small scrolls and a band of foliate scrolls enclosing small panels with figures and animals.
