Roman samian bowl, decorated
Ovolo with tongue adherent to L of "egg" and three-pronged terminal bent to R. Panel decoration, demarcated by wavy lines with rosettes at the junctures. (1) In divided panel :- (a) The hind legs of a dog ; (b) oblique wavy lines. (2) In panel, a nude woman (Venus) carrying a mirror in her left hand (D.203). (3) In divided panel :- (a) Festoon with two spiral-bud pendents ; (b) Upright palmate plant with curved laterals ending in rosettes. (4) In panel, Silenus playing the double flute (D.310) (5) Divided panel, as No.3. A straight, chevron wreath closes the design.
