Roman pottery amphora
Neck of a wine amphora addressed to the legion. Neck of a “Rhodian” amphora, but almost certainly from Crete, this type of wine jar arrived in Britain in the 50’s and 60’s, rarely later. The amphora bears the legion’s title (LEG.II.AVG) in ink; below is a cursive inscription. Lent by Newport Borough Council.
