RUG-MAKING EXAMPLES
Rag-rug sample (looped/hooked) made with metal spike on 6x6 inch hessian backing, black frame with yellow square and green patterned diamond. Cotton? Alison Morton tag tied to sample with hand drawn diagram and note ‘METAL SPIKE Worked from the back with a long strip of rag threaded through eye of spike’. AM notebook: ‘8th/9th October 1985. Made 2 more 6" squares of Rag Rug – one using the long metal spike with [?] – easy to use but makes a course Rug – good for large piece. The other sample was with the speed hook from Leicester – I stretched the hessian tight on wooden frame and cut the Rag narrower than for other samples and [?] through the eye. Very speedy and makes a lighter weight tight surface’.
