Pouch
Small Iqra Qur'an pouch (used to carry the Qur'an). Made from a single piece of soft purple fabric, with word 'Iqra' machine-embroidered on the front .
The word 'Iqra' is machine-embroidered in light purple thread (Z-twist) on the centre front (5 x 2cm), the embroidery is worked over a reinforcing layer of non-woven material. The pouch has a hook and loop fastening using black Velcro: the strips are 2cm wide and 2.7cm long and are machine stitched to the centre of the upper edge (inside) with large machine stitches using black thread (Z-twist). The front of the purple fabric has a matt surface with a soft pile (= moleskin fabric?), the reverse has the appearance of a 2/1 twill weave which is shiny and appears to be synthetic. The fabric has some elasticity in the vertical direction.
The fabric is folded in half and machine-stitched up the sides; the seam allowances are finished with overlocking stitches. The open top edge has a 3cm wide double turn-back (turned outwards) which is machine-stitched in place. All stitches use black thread (Z-twist) although the horizontal stitches securing the turn-back use a slightly thinner thread.
