Medieval / Post-Medieval copper alloy candlestick

A complete capstan candlestick with a flared drum base, and short stem topped by a moulded socket with upper lip, and a lower moulding beneath the rectangular openings. About 1/8 of the drum base rim is missing and the drum has small perforations, but otherwise the candlestick has retained its shape. It has retained its 'brass' colour'.

Towards the end of the sixteenth century the standard lathe-finished cylindrical socket gave way to the moulded socket with upper lip, of the type on this example (Brownsword 1985, 1).

Plate no. 14 980 coins and artefacts associated with the Ann Francis shipwreck.
