Greeting card
Embroidered postcard featuring the crest of the Royal Field Artillery. With a small 'Forget me not' card inserted into a pocket on the front. Handwritten message on small card: 'From Dai with love to All'.
The postcard is made from two pieces of card. One piece acts as the backing and has space for the message and address (written in French). The front piece is made from a slightly thicker card and forms a frame to hold the embroidery. It is embossed with a leaf garland design. The embroidery is sewn onto two pieces of fine silk gauze cut to resemble an envelope. The larger section has a V-shape cut at the top and the edge is finished with overcast stitches in silk thread. The smaller section acts as the envelope flap and is only attached to the frame along the top. It is also overcast along the edge but it has first been cut into a scallop shape. The embroidery features holly and mistletoe in the lower corners in green, red and white silk floss. The flap is embroidered with an ammunition cart in grey and brown with the letters ‘R.F.A’ underneath. On both sides of the card is a branch in green and yellow silk floss. The stitches used are mostly satin with stem and back stitch also used.
