Drape jacket
Blue drape jacket with a slight sheen. Worn by Colin Goddard of Penarth for dancing. The jacket was purchased in Cardiff in 1959.
Wool mix fabric, with black velvet collar/lapels and shaped cuffs and single button fastening at centre-front. Decorative buttons at cuffs (covered with blue fabric). Padded shoulders. Inner breast pockets on both sides. Fully lined with blue rayon twill. Both inner and outer metal buttons at centre-front have lost their (fabric-covered?) top, but the inside surface of the metal base has a black lacquer coating. Due to having an inner and an outer button, it is not clear which way round the jacket was supposed to have been buttoned, as both is possible. 'Shot' fabric of blue yarns in the horizontal and black yarns in the vertical direction, plain weave. Outer construction: two panels at front (left and right), two panels for each arm and one back panel. The front panels have long vertical darts starting under each arm. Inside construction: lining made from two arm, two front and two back panels. Dark blue, non-woven stiffener (synthetic) stitched to reverse of collar/lapels. Cuffs lined with shiny black synthetic fabric. Maker’s label on inside breast pocket.
