Biscuit porcelain bust of a long-haired man with a moustache in mid 17th century dress (doublet, embroidered sash and cravat), on a glazed pedestal in the form of a fluted column with a moulded spreading base, the flutes decorated in green and gold, gilded floral trails and swags within line borders to top and base. Cornelis De Witt (1623 - 1672), Burgomeester of Dordrecht, political associate of his brother Jan de Witt, imprisoned in 1672 for conspiring against William III of Orange, and lynched by the mob. After a posthumous portrait by Aert Schouman (1710 - 1792) Engraved by Jacobus Houbraken (1698 - 1780).
