Early Iron Age bronze ladle
A rectangular shaped rim-strengthener or repair plate overlaps the rim fragment and is pierced by two small rivet holes. The sheet gripped between this strip is torn down its middle axis, therefore only one rivet hole survives through the vessel sheet. Another larger rivet hole pierces the rim fragment, just beneath the rim edge, yet approximately 14mm beyond the edge of the strengthener/repair strip. It is probable that another similar rivet hole was once positioned at equal distance from the other side of the strengthener strip, possibly with another one or more rivet holes placed centrally beneath the strip and further down the body, thereby defining the fixing points of a handle plate.
