Teapot

Glamorgan Pottery

Teapot, earthenware, standing on a rounded spreading stepped foot, bulbous sides composed of approximately eight convex panels, shelving sharply inwards at the shoulder then flaring out to a high waved collar, inner flanged lip-rim, curving spout with several moulded grooves, a moulded shell-like shape to the top of the spout, high scroll and spurred handle with foliate moulding along the shoulder, raised thumb-spur and spreading foliate moulded lower terminal; transfer-printed in black with to one side of the body a rural haymaking scene showing in the foreground a male figure drinking from a mug and a female figure holding a pitchfork, in the background further figures load hay onto a cart, to the other side of the body is a rural scene showing a figure on horseback leading another horse across a stream, in the background are trees, fields and a distant windmill, black bands to the shoulder, collar and around the lip of the spout, black anthemions to the handle.
