Gripper
A specialist knife used by a clogmaker for cutting the channel round the edge of the wooden sole for the leather uppers. The narrow V-shaped curring tool fits into a long iron bar, and is secured in place by tightening a bolt. On one end of the curved iron bar is a wooden handle. At the other end of the bar is a hook, which fitted on to an iron ring on the clogmaker's bench. The clogmaker held the wooden handle in one hand and the clog sole on the bench in the other hand. The gripper was used in a leve motion to cut the channel, the hook in the iron ring holding it in place on the bench.
