Pot-lid
Pot-lid, earthenware, circular shape with cylindrical flange and convex top; the upperside of the lid decorated with an underglaze polychrome transfer-print of 'The Thirsty Soldier' (although this title is not recorded on the lid), showing a soldier seated on a wall and drinking from a jug whilst to one side two dark-haired female figures watch him, in the background an Italianate landscape, the scene enclosed by a narrow circular border of scrolls which is mostly obscured by the frame. The pot-lid mounted for display in a close fitting circular wooden frame painted black and with torn brown paper around its base.
