Oral history recording with Irma Caffarelli who was born in the mountain village of Costa in North Italy and moved to Wales in 1956. Part 1 of 3 (AV 11347 - AV 11349). Recorded as part of the Italian Memories in Wales project (2008-10), delivered by ACLI-ENAIP and funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
00.40 Irma gives her maiden and married names, date and place of birth. She was born in the mountain village of Costa in North Italy which she describes. Her parents Giovanni and Luigia Antoniazzi had always lived in the area. They lived on a farm where her father worked and went on to have a seed business in Lodi, near Milan. Her mother died when she was eleven years old. Her sister brought up her and her brothers and then Irma moved with her father and brothers to start up the seed business in the city of Lodi. Her brothers were then sent to war. She went to school and church in the village and describes the priest there.
