Plate

South Wales Pottery

Plate, earthenware, octagonal shape, rounded foot-rim tapering inwards with an incised ring around it, curving sides and spreading rim, the rim moulded woth a pattern of embossed daisies, a gadrooned edge to the rim; transfer-printed in black with to the centre of the well the coat of arms of the Rechabites' Order, a shield shape divided into several panels containing a sun, a moon surrounded by stars, a seated cow, an eye, a chevron band with three beehives and a small spray of flowers, to the top of the shield a beehive with bees, to one side of the shield a winged female figure holding a feather and to the other a female figure holding a bunch of fruit, the design surrounded by the inscription, "RECHABITES' ORDER. / PEACE AND PLENTY THE REWARD OF TEMPERANCE", some of the embossed daisies to the rim overpainted in pink and green.
