Sauce-tureen
Wedgwood, Josiah ((1730 - 1795))
Sauce tureen, cover and stand, creamware, the glaze almost colourless, the tureen in the form of a classical kylix, standing on a moulded trumpet foot and short stem, spreading sides and horizontal loop handles, flattened domed cover with central plateau and depressed knob finial, saucer shaped stand on a shallow foot rim with central locating ring; all three elements are painted near their rim with a bull's head in iron red camaieu, and have a border of a thin red line within a thicker one, single red line to tureen foot and handles, red rosette around the finial.
