Liberty bodice
Child's liberty bodice, 1930-40s.
Simple vest shape with wide shoulder straps, straight body, and centre front fastening. Card oval shaped makers label fastened over the fourth button, which reads 'BARWIK Fleecy bodice British Made size 10'. Made from cream knitted jersey cotton lined with white cotton domette and sewn around the edges by machine in cream thread using zig-zag stitch. The bodice is reinforced on the outside with strips of cream cotton sateen sewn with two lines of straight stitching, one either side of the fastening which run over the shoulder and down the back, one at each side with a button attached 7cm from the bottom edge, one running down the centre back. The fastening is trimmed with cream cotton sateen which has been wrapped around the edge like a binding and also machine sewn along the turned side. The left side with the buttons attached is 1.5cm wide, the right side with the buttonholes is 3.5cm wide. Five cream plastic buttons, 1cm diameter.
