CAMBOURNE glass negative
Starboard Broadside view of CAMBOURNE (Schooner), c.1936.
A typical Welsh schooner, the 118 gross ton Camborne was built at Amlwch in 1884 for local owners. In 1920 she was acquired by the Hook Colliery Co. Ltd., near Haverfordwest to carry anthracite from their jetty on the Cleddau to France. Her rigging was reduced and a diesel engine installed, but she was not a success. She was then sold to Captain Hugh Shaw of Arlington, Glos., who managed to trade her successfully around the British coasts for many years thereafter.
