Medal, Cymreigyddion
Silver medal awarded as a prize at the 1845 Cymreigyddion y Fenni eisteddfod for Welsh flannel. Decorated with an image of a ram.
Cymreigyddion y Fenni is a society founded in 1833 to promote Welsh language and culture in Monmouthshire. One of the main aims of the Society was to hold eisteddfodau. These were so popular that a hall was purpose-built in Abergavenny to accommodate them. The main patron of the eisteddfodau was no other than Lady Llanover. This collection of medals show the wide range of competitions held – such as poetry, essay writing, harp playing and craftwork.
