Early Medieval silver strip
Fragmentary strip of base silver or silvered bronze, broken at both ends. There is a shallow groove along the back, more or less on the centre line, which gives the piece the superficial appearance of a flattened tube or narrow sheet with its long edges folded inwards; but microscopic examination shows that it is really a solid strip with a thin oval section. The front is ornamented with pairs of roughly triangular ounch marks, not very regularly disposed. The surface is scratched with fine striations running roughly parallel to the long axis. the punched ornament suggests a Teutonic rather than a Celtic source.
