Sauce-tureen, cover and stand
Sauce tureen, cover and stand, earthenware, the stand, with a recessed flat base, spreading everted sides, lobed rim with raised flange around central well; twin horizontal foliate moulded handles; the tureen, standing on a spreading lobed foot, the lower sides rounded, bulbous at waist then convex at shoulder before rising steeply, ending with an everted waved lip rim; twin horizontal rustic handles with foliate moulding; a rounded , stepped domed cover with moulded ivy leaves around a flower bud finial; the stand, transfer-printed in a pale under-glaze blue with two figures standing in an Italianate landscape, surrounded by shrubs and trees and with Italianate-style buildings in the background, the rim with the 'Damask' border pattern, meandering blue lines on a paler blue ground, imitating the effect of Damask silk, the outer rim and handles with ornate scrolls and foliage on a pale blue dotted ground; the tureen transfer-printed in blue on both sides with the same figures in an Italianate landscape with a river and viaduct visible to the side, the 'Damask' border and foliate scrolling to the foot, handles, lip rim, rim of cover with blue detailing to the moulded ivy leaves and to the bud finial.
