Cup, cabinet
Cabinet cup, soft-paste porcelain, inset base, cylindrical sides, flaring everted lip-rim, scroll loop handle closed above the rim and centred by a flower head and terminating to a mask head; to the front of the body a reserved panel in which is painted 'Cupid in the Glass', the naked figure of a winged cupid kneels in a glass which is half filled with a purple liquid, besides the glass stands an empty glass bottle, both objects rest upon a polished wooden table against a beigy-brown background, the panel enclosed by a square gilt border ornamented with raised gilt scrolls, to the other side of the body a wider reserved panel painted with an azure ground, across the upper part of this panel is a border of beaded white enamel and gilt star shapes, an elaborate gilt scroll and foliate motif spreads across the lower part of the panel from the lower terminal of the handle, the panel is bordered across the bottom by a narrow gilt band and across the top by a wider gilt band against which is reserved a border of formal florets, a gilt band around the lip-rim, the handle painted in gilt.
