Roman stone inscription (Trajan)
With ansate sides. Original upper right corner missing; restored with a plaster reconstruction
Dedication to the Emperor Trajan
This inscription, erected in AD 100, may have adorned the south-west gate. The slab of Luna marble was sent from Italy, probably with its text ready-cut, but by the time it was set up the consular numeral required changing from II to III.
