Early Bronze Age pottery collared urn

Good brown ware, well made with narrow rim which has a deep concave bevel internally, and a well-marked neck and shoulder, the latter being the widest part of the vessel. Decoration: oblique impressed 'maggots' forming a herring-bone pattern on rim, collar and neck, with simple row just under shoulder, which also has a series of long, oval depressions spaced along it. Longworths (1984) Primary series.

Notes: Also calcined human bones representing a stoutly-built man and a child of 8-10 years, found about 10m. N of the barracks on the Roman Site. One of the urns inverted and full of calcined bones, 1m. 30 below ground; the exact circumstances of finding otherwise unknown.
