Late Bronze Age socketed hammer
Socketed hammer with a simple expanded moulding around the mouth. In side aspect, the otherwise parallel sided shaft expands abruptly above the working face, producing small shoulders. In front aspect, the shaft tapers slightly from the socket to the working face; where there is a deliberately emphasised casting seam set slightly to one side. There are severe cracks running down one of the narrower faces from the socket, which might have rendered the tool unstable soon after it came into use.
