Needlework samples
Needlework samples sewn on to a piece of paper, showing examples of stitches, patches, darning and other plain sewing. Name of student/pupil (Adeleine Davies) handwritten on reverse of paper.
Needlework was an important part of a girl’s school curriculum throughout the 1800s and into the 1900s. These samples are typical of the needlework produced by young girls to demonstrate their ability to master dressmaking, mending and simple embroidery techniques.
