Roman copper alloy steelyard
Oval section, broken at one end. Graduated to weigh up to 20 librae. One edge weighs by unciae up to 5 librae 10 unciae, being graduated V [I]III III I[I] [I] at every twelfth division. The other side is graduated every five librae XX V [X] (V standing for XV). It had been twice repaired. Firstly a slot was cut and filled with fress metal, this bears file-marks corresponding to the marked graduation IIII. Subsequently well finished bronze splints, fitted to the exact curvature, were soldered on either side of the break.
