Great Mountain Colliery, photograph
Photograph captioned 'No. 1 Slant, Great Mountain Colliery, Tumble, Carmarthenshire. The headroom is not very much. The wooden roof supports have been important in the history of coal mining in South Wales. This colliery is in the anthracite area of the west, a coal much harder than that mined in the Valleys of Glamorganshire and Monmouthshire. An interesting feature of the photograph is the running of supply lines into the slant: one of these is a compressed air pipe, a source of power for many purposes in collieries.' Mounted on card. Made for the exhibition RECORDING WALES 3 in 1970/1971.
