Late Bronze Age bronze socketed axe

Complete three ribbed socketed axe of long slender form. High placed loop extends from underside of prominent narrow outsplayed mouth moulding. Three slightly convergent longitudinal ribs extend from mouth moulding down each face. Exterior mouth shape oval, whilst interior shape is sub-rectangular. One projecting runner and two negative runner scars visible on mouth top. Rectangular body section and angled side edges. Towards base of socket is a wide longitudinal and projecting haft ridge 6.0-7.0mm wide, and offset from central line of socket. Sides of axe near straight, but slightly divergent. The blade edge is nearly straight in shape with no recurving of the blade edges. Striations parallel to the blade edge indicate preparation for use. Casting marks visible down both sides, but blunted. Slight casting flaws visible on both faces of axe: small pits or indents in surface, probably caused by bubbling of metal (not severe enough to prevent usage of axe). Patina green overlying a grey-green patination with lighter green carbonate concretions.
