Piano accordion
Piano accordion played between the early 1920s and late 1940s by Ifan Thomas (born 9 February 1882 in the Rhondda). Mr Thomas played the accordion regularly at home when he took part in musical evenings and sing-a-longs, performing songs such as 'My Little Home in the West'. He also played the mouth-organ. He lived in Rhyd-y-car, Merthyr Tydfil, for many years, before moving in the late 1920s.
Melodeon-like bellow-operated accordion wih 21 plastic-covered piano-like keys on player's right hand side and 8 plastic buttons on left. Latherette handles/straps with felt backing attached to grained and stained wooden frame; card bellows with steel corners. Leatherette taped edges and nickel-plated steel front grill.
