Truncheon
Black wooden truncheon, with an oval like head on which is painted in white the letters L.C Turned towards one end to form handgrip with turned knobs at both ends.
This is a slightly unusual truncheon which may possibly have been a canal truncheon. Letters L C do not relate to any local constabulary. Canal boat men used to have truncheons which they used as identification and signalling. The shape and inscription on this one seems to suggest this also. Date - possibly 19th century. Formerly part of Gwent Police Museum collection
