Butter-dish and cover
Butter dish, hard-paste porcelain, oval shape with inset base and straight slightly flaring sides, around the lower and middle exterior body bands of three raised ridges, around the upper exterior body a basketwork pattern divided into ten divisions by short raised ribs, oval domed cover with around the sides a moulded basketwork pattern divided into ten divisions by short raised ribs, to the top of the cover a finial modelled in the form of a cabbage, two turnips and several leaves; finely painted in polychrome enamels with to either side of the exterior body of the dish and to either side of the top of the cover small landscapes with a figure, a river, rocks, trees and in some cases distant buildings, the landscapes bordered below by rococo scrolls in purple, blue and gilt, the moulded basketwork borders on the dish and the cover painted with small floral sprigs in alternate panels, very worn gilt edges to the lip-rim of the dish and the rim of the cover, the finial painted green. Both the dish and the cover broken and repaired.
