PEMBROKESHIRE LASS Coming Into Naples (painting)

Port view of the schooner PEMBROKESHIRE LASS coming into Naples on 6th November 1842. Vesuvius and harbour can be seen at bottom left. Title painted in white on grey along bottom edge. Unsigned.

The schooner Pembrokeshire Lass (132 gross tons) was built at Milford Haven in 1840 for local shipowner William Davies. She was typical of hundreds of similar vessels that traded coastwise and deep-sea in the last century. Sold to David Flynn of Cork in 1875, she was wrecked on a beach near Southport on 28 May 1877. Adeiladwyd y sgwner Pembrokeshire Lass yn Aberdaugleddau ym 1840 ar gyfer William Davies, perchennog llongau lleol. Mae'n enghraifft nodweddiadol o gannoedd o longau tebyg a fasnachai ar hyd yr arfordir a'r moroedd mawr yn y ganrif ddiwethaf. Fe'i gwerthwyd i David Flynn o Gorc, Iwerddon ym 1875, cyn cael ei dryllio ar draeth ger Southport ar 28 Mai 1877.
