Bellarmine
Bellarmine, of pale-grey stoneware, standing on a narrow raised foot integral to the body, the body, bulbous, the neck narrow, long and slightly tapered ending in a cordoned rim; loop handle with elongated lower terminal of a raised roughly triangular ridge; the exterior covered with a rich iron-brown wash and a heavy salt galze giving a mottled 'orange-peel' appearance; applied to the neck with a bearded face mask, below this, to the body with an applied medallion containing a central cruciform device with raised central boss, of foliate style interspersed with radiating stems ending in stylised flower heads.
