Currier's knife
Rectangular double edged knife held by bar down centre with horizontal handle at one end & vertical handle at other; blade worn to metal centre.
The shaving of hides was the most complex processes in leather production. Carried out on the flesh side of the skin, it required considerable skill and precision to prevent the knife from cutting too deeply into the surface. The knife itself had one horizontal handle and the other, usually held in the currier's left hand, vertical.
