Lawrence, Bolton

Open dish, pale buff, fine stoneware body, flat foot ring, gently rounded sides with visible rilling marks and plain, slightly thickened rim; the body with a grey-green fine ?salt glaze with dark speckles and slight orange-peel effect, at the centre of the dish a Japanese character hand-painted in a free style in black under the glaze, plain black band painted at the top of the rim.
