Quilt
Wholecloth quilt, about 1840-50. Maker unknown, but owned by Mary Harris of Letterston.
Top cover of glazed cotton print with mainly pinks, mauve and beige and some pencil blue. Overall diamond pattern with scattered floral motifs. Plain white twill weave undercover. Quilting pattern consists of very large central motif of potted flowering plant within a diamond border by triple cable, filled with the flowerheads and leaves of the plant. This central diamond is on a field of rectangular single trellis with flower vases in corners and edged with large border of quadruple cable. Outer border of flower heads, maple leaves and oak-type leaves with a multi-leaf motif in each corner, with various fillings such as a teardrop, small single leaves and swags. Final outer edging of triple cable. Well quilted. Carded wool filling.
