Roman stone moulding
The rear is not sawn, but is left rough with no chisel-marks; there are no holes for iron ties. Both pieces preserve a smoothed moulding of hard, pink brick-cement extending to the back of the stone; this was painted red, and in places is overlain by yet another plaster coat, also painted red.
