Plate, soft-paste porcelain,octagonal shape with inset base within a tapering foot-rim, curving sides and spreading rim; painted in polychrome enamels and gilt with to the centre of the well the Kakiemon 'Quail' pattern, a Japanese-style design of two quails with a large flowering tree to one side and a smaller flowering bush to the other, the sides of the well and the rim painted with scattered sprigs of flowers and insects, border to the outer rim of red foliage interspersed with gilt flower heads.
