Post-Medieval gold finger ring
Gold 'fede' ring with decorative 'clasped hands' bezel and inscription
The bezel is formed of two clasped hands with the lobes and cleft of a small heart emerging from the top. The shoulders are cast as a pair of ornate lace-effect ruffed cuffs and scrolled sleeves, from which the hands emerge. The band is flat, and the outer surface is decorated with a repeating pattern of recessed quatrefoils and curved ‘H’ shaped cells interrupted by a solder line at the back. Traces of white enamel is present on the external band surface, suggesting it was originally enameled.
The internal surface is inscribed with the motto ‘BE TRVE IN HART*’ in Roman capitals.
