Late Roman copper alloy belt buckle and plate
Late Roman belt buckle and plate of Hawkes (1974) Type 1B. The plate is made from a single sheet bent over, with the open ends rivetted together. It is engraved on one side with fish and peacocks facing the tree of life. The buckle is held in the bend of the plate. It consists of a D-shaped stylised dolphin-s head with circlet eyes, surmounted by reverse horse heads.
