Two girls standing in church
The girls in this work are based on drawings Gwen John made in Meudon Church. They are orphans from the St Joseph Orphanage. Gwen John wrote, "The orphan girls dressed in their black hats with the white ribbon around their black dresses with the little white collars attract me".
